the day in, day out...

Ada:
Ada is tiny. She's below the 3rd percentile for her age. At 11 months old, she's about the size of a 5 month old. It's kind of funny to see such a tiny kid standing up and climbing everything in sight. Not much interest in walking yet--too busy climbing.

She kind of growls like a gremlin. Sometimes it gets pretty loud, like in public recently. It turned a lot of heads because it's such an funny baby sound. Although her ears do stick out a bit, I'm thankful that she doesn't look much like a gremlin. (If a creature like that had popped out of my womb, I don't think all the oxytocin in the world could bond me to that thing).

Seth:
He's very holiday-focused. He still regularly wishes people a Merry Christmas and immediately breaks into a wide-eyed, semi-yelled version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. On Sunday he sang this song (LOUDLY) during every single hymn at church, like he was trying to compete with the congregation.

He's already decided what he wants to be for Halloween this year: a kudu (the animal in the picture). So, I've got about 9 months to either convince him to be something else (hopefully something that more than 1% of the U.S. population can recognize), or find some way of making a kudu costume that doesn't make Seth (or his costume-maker) look utterly ridiculous.

Aaron:
He's spent the last month doing inpatient pediatrics at the local children's hospital. It being the height of flu and bronchiolitis season, I'm tempted to hose him down at the door before he enters our home. I'm not sure what else to say about Aaron right now. Medical school tends to take over everything. He bought me flowers the other day--that's something.

Me:
I wish I was an interesting person, but all my time and efforts lately have gone into helping Ada be a better rested (and happier) baby, while also caring for and entertaining Seth. It's trickier than most people would think. My neighbor and I were laughing yesterday that we both felt like we spent the entire day trying to get our babies to nap. It sounds boring, but making your kids happy is pretty great. That is, when it works.

Our little Aaron has been in the 3rd percentile until his 12 month well child visit where he finally jumped into double digits at the 10th percentile. He started walking early (10 months) and people were floored because he looked so little, more like five or six months it was pretty funny.

And it seems like most of my time is spent helping our little guy to be better rested too and to make sure his older brother lets him be rested. :P

Anyway, your kids are adorable!

"Hark the Herald Angels Sing" sounds like a more appropriate song for church than "Do Wah Diddy" by Manfred Mann that Joey sang at the top of his lungs during the sacramental hymn! There were three of my other children on the pew between Joey and me at the time and so he had finished with "There she was just a walkin' down the street, singing" and was starting on the do wah diddy part before I could clap my hand over his little mouth.
